The Vinnytsia Regional Perinatal Center received 4 new lamps for the treatment of newborn jaundice thanks to our partners - the American organization Alight!
Neonatal jaundice is when the baby's skin and the whites of the eyes look yellow. This condition is caused by the accumulation of a substance called bilirubin in the blood. Jaundice in newborns is very common, with about 3 out of 5 babies (60 percent) having jaundice.

Jaundice usually occurs a few days after birth. In most cases, it has a mild course, does not harm the child and disappears without treatment. But if the baby has severe jaundice and doesn't get prompt treatment, it can lead to brain damage.

To prevent such complications, doctors use phototherapy: the baby is placed under special lamps that help the body convert bilirubin into a form that it can get rid of with urine. Phototherapy can be done in a hospital or at home and is completely safe.

The Alight Foundation provided a grant to our foundation to help the Vinnytsia Regional Perinatal Center in the amount of UAH 143,600. We purchased and handed over 4 phototherapy lamps, which are already actively used for the treatment of babies.

Each year, the Alight team provides health care, shelter, protection, access to clean water and improved economic opportunities for more than 3.5 million people in 19 countries around the world. We are sincerely grateful to our donors for such strengthening of Ukrainian maternity hospitals!
